Wayfarer Tickets

For travel in the Greater Manchester Area on buses, Metrolink & trains, Wayfarer Tickets, and valid for travel from Darwen, are worth considering.

Wayfarer is a one day ticket that you pre-purchase and self-date on your selected day of travel. The tickets are valid all over Greater Manchester, and parts of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire and the Peak District. Wayfarer lets you travel by bus at any time, and by train and tram after 9.30am weekdays, and anytime Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

These tickets can be purchased at Clitheroe Interchange, Clitheroe Information Centre, and manned stations in the area, but not on trains, so advance purchase is essential.

A PlusBus ticket gives you unlimited bus travel around town, at the start, the finish, or both ends of your train journey. Plusbus is now available to 195 towns and cities across the U.K., costs around £2, and railcard discounts are available. Additional features and locations will be available from 20 May 2007.

The "add on" tickets can be purchased at the usual ticket offices, and shortly it is expected that they will be available for purchase on-line.

Clitheroe Bus

Northern has introduced a through rail to bus ticket called Clitheroe Bus. The ticket is available every day and provides through travel on to Bowland Transit leisure services from Clitheroe Interchange.

This service operates every hour on Mondays to Saturdays, and provides access to many parts of the Ribble Valley including the Leeds to Liverpool Canal at East Marton.

ALL LINE RAIL ROVER

The All Line Rail Rover ticket allows unlimited travel on most National Rail services (see key conditions)at any time for 7 or 14 consecutive days.

It is valid for travel on the Caledonian Sleeper seater coach (reservations compulsory) or in a berth with payment of the appropriate supplement. It is also valid on the Ffestiniog Railway.

The all lines rover is NOT valid for travel on Eurostar, Heathrow Express, TfL underground, Docklands Light Railway and Croydon Tramlink, private railways (except Ffestiniog Railway) or on any shipping service. Additionally it is also not available for travel on Heathrow Connect services between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow

CUMBRIAN COAST FELLSMAN to Ravenglass - Kingfisher Railtours

From Carnforth (10.12) or Grange over Sands to Ravenglass and return - Carnforth (17.20)

Starting at Carnforth, why not explore the Carnforth Station Visitor Centre or have a relaxing beverage in ‘The Brief Encounter Refreshment Rooms' before crossing under the line to our departure platform. Volunteers permitting, both venues may also be open when we return to Carnforth in the evening.

Once aboard , the Guard blows his whistle, the locomotive responds and we set off heading out west along reputedly the most stunningly scenic coastal Railway line in the Country. With the Lakeland Mountains rising sharply from the coastal plain on our right and coastal and sea views to our left, we travel over two spectacular estuary viaducts, the first over the River Kent at Arnside before pausing briefly to collect passengers at Grange Over Sands. Then continuing to the second viaduct, the Leven viaduct over the River Leven just before Ulverston. Turning inland across the Barrow peninsular the views of picturesque Mountains, Valleys and Sea continue as we head on up to Ravenglass.

Please note the return train fare is to Ravenglass Station only and does not include any further excursions.

There are two excursions available, both at £6 each extra, to either The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway or Muncaster Castle Gardens, Owlery & Maze.

Upon arrival at Ravenglass, those passengers pre booked for the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway should follow the signs (and stewards!) to the R&ER Station next door. The R&ER is a delightful 15 inch gauge line that runs for 7 miles up unspoilt Eskdale into the Lakeland Mountains at Dalegarth. Your ticket price includes a full return run on the R&ER. Passengers for Muncaster Castle Gardens should join the shuttle bus for transfer to Muncaster. Whilst Muncaster Castle is closed on Saturdays, your ticket price includes entry to the  beautiful Gardens, Owlery and Maze. The shuttle bus will run regularly between the Station and Muncaster.
