Wayfarer Tickets

For travel in the Greater Manchester Area on buses, Metrolink & trains, Wayfarer Tickets, and valid for travel from Darwen, are worth considering.

Wayfarer is a one day ticket that you pre-purchase and self-date on your selected day of travel. The tickets are valid all over Greater Manchester, and parts of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire and the Peak District. Wayfarer lets you travel by bus at any time, and by train and tram after 9.30am weekdays, and anytime Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

These tickets can be purchased at Clitheroe Interchange, and manned stations in the area, but not on trains, so advance purchase is essential.

A PlusBus ticket gives you unlimited bus travel around town, at the start, the finish, or both ends of your train journey. Plusbus is now available to 195 towns and cities across the U.K., costs around £2, and railcard discounts are available. Additional features and locations will be available from 20 May 2007.

The "add on" tickets can be purchased at the usual ticket offices, and shortly it is expected that they will be available for purchase on-line.

CHANGES TO NORTHERN DUOS

Northern Rail have announced significant changes to their Duo tickets that will benefit customers travelling throughout Lancashire. Currently the Duo ticket is only available between two points on a line of route and the changes will allow customers to buy Duo tickets that cover more than one line of route.

Details of the changes can be seen below:

Clitheroe – Manchester Victoria via Darwen line to all stations on the East Lancashire line (Colne /Burnley Manchester Road – Blackburn section).

Clitheroe line (Clitheroe – Blackburn section) / East Lancashire line (Colne / Burnley Manchester Road – Preston) to all stations on the Ormskirk branch.

Clitheroe line (Clitheroe – Blackburn section) to all stations as far as Preston.

Burnley Manchester Road to Manchester Victoria via Hebden Bridge

Ormskirk branch to Liverpool Stations via Ormskirk and Merseyrail Electrics

Kirkby, Rainford and Upholland to station via Wigan / Atherton to Manchester Victoria

Blackpool South branch and Blackpool North, Poulton-le-Fylde & Kirkham & Wesham to Blackburn and stations beyond on the East Lancashire line – these are only valid in this direction only .

Clitheroe Bus

Northern has introduced a through rail to bus ticket called Clitheroe Bus. The ticket is available every day and provides through travel on to Bowland Transit leisure services from Clitheroe Interchange.

 

 

A quick guide to some bus services from Clitheroe Interchange:

280 and X80 (Preston) Clitheroe to Skipton

This service operates every hour on Mondays to Saturdays, and provides access to many parts of the Ribble Valley including the Leeds to Liverpool Canal at East Marton.
