Railway exhibition at Tebay Church
|
|
At 10.30 on Saturday 24 July 2010 the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, James Cropper, will open an exhibition in St James’s Church, Tebay, devoted to Tebay’s railway history and people’s recollections of it. The display will be in the baptistry, around the font, which has a cover in the shape of a railway wheel. The church, which has a distinct “railway waiting-room” feel about it (the pews are in the form of waiting-room seats and the walls are of cream glazed brick), is open daily from 10.30 to 16.00 but, if found to be closed during these hours, or for further information, ring Reg Capstick on 015396 24497. The exhibition is expected to run for a few months and, if sufficient interest is shown, possibly become permanent. Admission is free but a donation would be appreciated. Coincidentally, a steam excursion is due to pass through Tebay, en route to Carlisle, sometime during the day. Info: W S Wilding, Orton, Tebay (18.7.2010)
