With the scenic Settle – Carlisle route lying to the north, the Ribble Valley line sees regular passing excursions, especially in the summer months. Often these services are in the hands of 'heritage' diesel locomotives but regularly are steam-hauled.  Most are 'through' trains, but some call at Blackburn and/or Clitheroe.
